When I started to write my bachelor thesis about music concepts in games, it was obvious that the best way to get insights in the way professionals work and how they see the industry is to just ask them directly.
That's why I was really happy, when I received the consents for my interview requests, and even happier on how nice and enjoyable the interviews went. I am really grateful to the three for being so friendly, open and offering me some of their time. As I can't upload the interviews I just want to say a few words on who I had the chance to interview:
Silvius Lack (Department Manager of Game Design at Games Academy Berlin) was the first person, I was allowed to interview. Key points of the interview were the implementation of audio in games, current tendencies and trends and music and sound concepts in general. He is also the consultant of my thesis, made me want to learn how to code and helped me out with literature and tips on audio implementation. Thank you for all your support!
Pierre Langer (Manager and one of the founders of Dynamedion) and I talked via skype about his background, career and story of Dynamedion as well as technical procedures in game audio creation, and the games industry from the perspective of audio professionals and its current tendencies. He was really friendly and open-minded, what impressed me as Dynamedion is a global player in Game Audio (and I was just a student writing a bachelor thesis). Thank you for your patience and all the information!
Alexander Röder (Lead Composer at Dynamedion) allowed me to visit him in his Studio in Hanau to interview him there and get some insights in his working process. As a caring and warmhearted person he even picked me up at the station and then answered loads of questions about his career, various concepts and methods for creating game music considering genre as well as technical questions on processes. He also showed me a session on one of his current projects and wanted to see "Listen Carefully", a filmlet I wrote the music for. It has been an awesome chance, thank you a lot!
After a 15 hours train ride I am still smiling because of the successfull interviews and the positive feedback of my interviewees. Wow!
The first step is done, in Karen Collins words (taken from an interview with Square Enix Music in 2012): "I encourage anybody who is interested to get involved: Start interviewing, writing, analysing, creating, whatever. Just get involved!"
Good night!
