OCULUS is a location based game for mobile android devices with its focus on fighting creatures and collecting virtual resources on a real map. As this interaction mostly takes place when the player is out and about we decided to use music only in those situations, when the player consciously takes the time for playing. That is, when she/he is fighting another creature or when she/he is equipping her/his creature and crafting biodes and driodes in his/her homebase.
The objective of the soundscape was to support the clean visual appearance of the game and make the software feel as premium as possible.

The special attraction of OCULUS is that there are two levels/fractions with different music, sound and interface - but only those players who are willing to take a risk will find out what that means.
The game has an AI called I.R.I.S. that communicates to the player. Fortunately the lovely voice talent Elisa Bannat lend her awesome voice for the german version and the sweet canadian singer Maja Presnell brought the english I.R.I.S. to life.
If you don't own an android device but still want to have a listen, you can check out the music of occulus on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/viciousonic/sets/oculus

OCULUS was showcased at this years Quo Vadis (2014), just as "Skull and Soul" and "Gaia: Genesis" - two more games I did the music and sound for - and also had its own presentation at the Making Games Talents.
